Friday Finds

I thought that it might be fun today to talk about some Firefox add-ons that I’ve discovered (and that I can’t live without now!):

Echofon:

Lots of people complain that they just can’t get in to Twitter. Well, if it wasn’t for Echofon, I don’t think I would be that in to Twitter either. But thanks to this great add-on, Twitter is always sitting there, waiting for me right in my browser. There’s a little blue bubble down in the lower right corner to click and expand a pop-up window, like this:

I can see how many tweets there have been from my friends since the last time I checked in and they are in blue for me, too. I can also easily retweet things, just by right-clicking on an item. And I can use the different tabs to see who’s tweeted at me and who has sent me a direct message (I use this feature to talk to my husband at work and my girlfriend in Portugal all the time. It’s like IM, but better!).

Another thing I love about Echofon (and this might be the case with other apps, too): I can re-tweet something posted by someone else without having to account for their name taking up space. So if someone posted a tweet that took up all 140 characters, I can simply retweet them and not worry about it! There’s the option to just retweet or to retweet with a comment. I love options!

But the reason I can’t live without this little add-on is this: It allows me to switch back and forth between Twitter accounts without ever having to log in or log out. I have three different Twitter accounts (one for me, one for {girl friday} and one for the Digichick). I’m constantly having to switch from account to account. Being able to do this with one click is just fabulous!

Feedly:

I got myself addicted to using Bloglines… and then Ask.com decided that it’s really “not their thing” anymore. Bloglines will now be shutting down in November. So, that left me without a good feed reader, right when I had just gotten back into enjoying blog hopping once again… sigh.

Then I discovered Feedly:

It’s clean. It’s beautiful. It’s easy to use. It’s sexy. And it adds a little green button to my toolbar so that I can just click on it and it takes me right there. It’s lovely!

Smart Bookmarks:

Everyday, I have dozens of sites I need to visit. Smart Bookmarks makes it so super easy to do that! It makes use of those cute little favicons (those tiny images you’ll see on a tab in your browser). So, thanks to this great add-on, to visit the dashboard for my blog all I need to do is click on the little purple flower button that’s a link to WordPress—and it’s right on there on my toolbar!

And if I can’t remember which of the nine little chicks on my toolbar is for the Digichick’s forums, Smart Bookmarks makes the title expand for me, so I can be sure that I’ve got the right link. I love it!

And One More:

I also have something that I’d recommend, but I don’t really use myself anymore. It’s called Morning Coffee and what it will do for you is open a series of sites in new tabs on any given day. Let’s say that you are on a creative team and it’s time to upload to multiple galleries. This add-on can save you time by opening up a new tab for each of the galleries you need to visit for your team! I tried to use this add-on for a while, but it never really stuck with me. I still think it’s cool, though!

Recommendations:

I also have a cool site to tell you all about today. It’s called Design Seeds and it’s full of creative color inspiration. There are tons of palettes posted on the site that you can use as the starting point for your next project, whether it be a scrapbook page or a new kit! It’s a great blog to follow.

Inspiration:

I’ve been trying to scrap a little this week (since I also got to do a little shopping this week, too). :D

I felt really out of mojo when it came time to scrap, though. I had to go looking for something to help give me a little inspirational push. So, I thought today I’d share a prompt of my own, to help get you moving on your own pages!

  • What’s one thing you do every day?

Take a photo if you need to. Now go scrap about it! You can talk about your daily routine. Or something you can’t live without! Or maybe something new you’re trying to start… give it some thought and then go and write a little bit about what your life is like every day!

I made a layout this week about my new daily habit of taking a liquid iron supplement… fun! (You can see my layout here: The Things we Do for Love.)

Newsletter:

The Digichick’s shop is down for maintenance at the moment. But once it’s back up, I’ll be sending out a newsletter with some announcements about a few current specials, along with a coupon, just for subscribers. Are you a subscriber? Be sure to sign up for my newsletter so that you don’t miss a thing!

Well, that’s all for today! Until next time, happy scrapping!
